Bedtime Story: Offers online illustrated stories written for adults to read to children. Stories are arranged in categories, such as classics, stories about kids and their pets, and imaginative adventures. Each story has a short summary, suggested age group, and approximate reading time.


The Big Busy House: Provides teachers' guides for children's novels, which include background information, building vocabulary, reading skills and strategies, discussion questions, and extension activities across the curriculum. Provides information about authors and illustrators, as well as other books by the same author and of the same genre.


Candlelight Stories: Offers a wide selection of fables, fairy tales, and other stories, including original stories from contributing authors. Includes letter games, spelling word games, and a Spelling Machine program to download. Writing Center has tips for writing and enacting stories, as well as a place where children can submit stories and view them online.


Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site: Contains a collection of children's book reviews, along with classroom activities and ideas for using them. Integrates children's literature into particular subjects, curriculum areas, and themes. Features biographies of children's book authors and illustrators. Provides articles on literacy for parents and teachers, as well as information about professional books on literacy.


Children's Book Counsel: Contains annotated lists of recommended children's books in a variety of categories, including poetry, math & counting, historical fiction, the African-American experience, fantasy/science fiction, and more. Provides reading-related activities for children. Presents information about children's book authors and illustrators, as well as articles on literature-related current events.


Children's Literature: Features children's book reviews and information about authors and illustrators. Also includes literature-related activities for specific books targeted for grades 4-8.


Children's Literature Activities for the Classroom: Contains children's book titles listed by grade level, along with classroom activities and lesson plans for each book. Provides links to websites related to different genres in children's literature, including fairy tales, Shakespeare, mythology, ethnic literature for children (Jewish, Native American, Afro-American, Asian American, and Hispanic), women's history, and more.


Children's Storybooks Online: Provides online stories for young children, older children, and young adults. Also contains riddles, coloring pages, and a maze.


The Internet Public Library Youth Division: Visitors can go to the Reading Zone to read picture books, short stories, poetry, and more. A reference section includes links to dictionaries, almanacs, and encyclopedias. Contains a wealth of other informational links, from science experiments to art, music, math, USA, sports information, and more.


Kids-Korner.com: Links to book-related sites and features links to a variety of children's magazines.


Little Explorers: Click on letters of the alphabet to view pages in this picture dictionary. Each page contains beginning-letter pictures, along with links to information, activities, and games related to the pictures. Activity sheets require children to use the picture dictionary links to answer questions. Provides index of activities for curriculum planning.


Reading Rainbow: Based on the PBS television series Reading Rainbow, this site features selected children's literature and book related experiences designed to motivate children to read good books. The site lists more than 100 book titles, along with a literature-related activity for each one.


Scholastic for Kids: Features websites that provide information and activities related to popular children's book series, including The Magic School Bus, Clifford, The Baby-sitters' Club, I Spy, and more.


The Scoop: Contains children's book reviews, interviews and biographies of children's book authors and illustrators. An activity center offers art & crafts, contests, cooking activities, and science and sewing projects.


Time for Kids: Online Time Magazine for kids, this site offers a News Scoop Edition for grades 2-3 and a World Report Edition for grades 4-6. Easy to read, high interest articles are featured in each edition.


Vandergrift's Children's Literature Page: Offers information for enhancing literacy and tips for sharing literature with young people. Examines various genres in children's literature, including modern realistic fiction, fanciful fiction, regional and historical fiction, biography, informational materials, and poetry.
